Writing your Personal Statement
Getting your personal statement drafted can seem like an overwhelming task. Follow these tips to help you ensure yours is personal, it showcases you in the best possible light and it leaves the admissions department wanting to offer you a place on their course!
1. Do your research. Make a long list of the universities you are considering and take time to look at the courses, the modules, the style of studying and the method of assessment.
2. Ensure your personal statement has an opening paragraph that is immediately engaging without being cliched.
3. Bring together your academic learning and how it has developed your soft skills. Reference these soft skills alongside your academic abilities to say why you would be right for your chosen course.
4. Reference your extra-curricular activities with purpose. Make sure you talk about what you have learned from these and how it has developed you as a person.
5. Write a strong conclusion. Reference what you would like to do after university if you know or what you hope the degree will lead to broadly if you are still unsure.
