How’s your GAP year going?

Whether you decided to travel or stay closer to home, planning your time during your GAP year is crucial. More so than usual in all probability as we head towards the end of 2021 and we are seeing more countries heading towards another lockdown. Which makes things a little tricky compared to life pre Covid. That’s why time in the UK is more important to plan so you can do something meaningful in terms of volunteering, learning new skills or working. This means that if you have a chunk of 2-3 months plan it wisely. Working of any kind is useful, not only to earn money for University, but also to develop skills, almost certainly you will develop soft skills, people and communication skills are needed for almost all but the most isolated of roles but you will hopefully develop some computer skills, a technical ability, or even something self employable that could see you through university. One creative student with a passion for baking who had worked in a small catering business during their gap year was able produce party cakes whilst studying, making extra money and not encroaching on studying time….and in the long run looking productive and entrepreneurial to any future employers. Win, win, win I’d say.
